PARTAGER CE POSTE

Job description

The research group CEUS (www.eustudies.ugent.be) is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic colleague to conduct research and prepare a doctoral dissertation. The PhD is situated in the framework of an FWO project on ‘The europeanization of development policy’. The project addresses the question ‘how and when does the EU have an impact on its member states’ development cooperation’? Adopting a mixed method research design, it examines the EU’s impact on the development policy of four member states (i.e. Belgium, Germany, Sweden and France) related to three topical cases (the migration-development nexus, the security-development nexus and private sector development), combining quantitative (i.e. univariate and time series analysis) and qualitative (i.e. process-tracing) methods.

You participate in the international debate on this topic at academic conferences and you publish your research papers in academic journals. You also follow up and contribute to the policy debates on European development policy. The project will be supervized jointly by prof. dr. Jan Orbie, dr. Sarah Delputte and dr. Joren Verschaeve.

In addition to these main research tasks, you also contribute to the general functioning of the CEUS team and to a module in the Ma EU Studies.

We offer a full-time fully funded Ph.D. position for max 48 months. We expect the contract to be extended annually and up to 4 years based on research achievements and available funding.
