Research activities of Gohy’s group: Synthesis and characterisation of polymers and block copolymers for application in batteries. Main topics are the development of novel redox polymer as electrode materials and development of solid polymer electrolytes with high ionic conductivities at room temperature. The laboratory is equipped with all the needed equipment for the synthesis and characterisation of polymers (thermal, mechanical, electrochemical….) and for the fabrication and full electrochemical characterisation of batteries.
Topic of the proposed research: Current electric vehicles are making use of lithium-ion batteries with relatively limited performances in terms of energy density (<300 Wh/kg), cost and safety. In this regard, solid-state technology is a promising technology to overcome the indicated shortcomings.
The objective of this project is to develop a methodology that can optimize the concept of solid-state battery in terms of performance optimization (through optimizing interfaces between electrodes and electrolyte), processing and manufacturing. In this context, one of the key project objectives is the development of green methods to process and manufacture solid-state materials and batteries where limited knowledge is available in the scientific area and in the industry. A special focus will be placed on green synthetic approaches towards the synthesis of ion-conducting polymers.
Required qualifications:The hired researcher will be a PhD with expertise in the synthesis and characterization of polymers. Expertise(s) in the preparation and in the characterization of hybrid organic/inorganic materials and/or in the electrochemical characterization of materials is (are) a plus.
