FACULTY OF SCIENCES
Application deadline: September 15th, 2019
Start date: 01/01/2020
The Department of Molecular Biology (DBM) of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) invites applications for two full-time tenured faculty positions to join its multi-disciplinary research and teaching team, starting on 01/01/2020.
Candidates with a PhD degree in Molecular Biology (or related disciplines), an internationally competitive scientific track-record and an innovative research program in a field emphasized by the DBM department are invited to apply. We are particularly interested in recruiting candidates investigating developmental and cell biology, biochemistry, molecular microbiology and genetics. Expertise in modern imaging approaches will be considered as a strong asset. The candidate should consolidate an existing laboratory of the department. Preference will therefore be given to candidates whose research skills will both integrate and complement current departmental strengths (http://www.ulb.ac.be/sciences/dbm/). Nevertheless the successful candidate is expected to develop his own line of independent research and to apply to the most competitive external grants funding bodies to support his research program (ERC, Welbio, FNRS, Europe, Regional funds, etc…).
The successful candidate will be based in the heart of the University’s Gosselies campus (Brussels South) and will join a robust, vibrant and collaborative community within and outside the department. It encompasses a community of 200-300 researchers as well as 1500 workers in more than 50 biotech start-up companies. The department is provided with up-to-date equipment. In particular the candidate will have ample access to the imaging capacities of the CMMI (Center for Microscopy and molecular imaging) located inside our building.
The applicant shall show strong motivation and abilities with respect to teaching and mentoring. Thus he/she will contribute to the teaching activities in a wide range of aspects of modern biology in the Bachelor and Master programs by ensuring both basic and specialty courses. He/she should progressively increase his/her teaching activities to reach a level comparable to that of colleagues within the Faculty (about 80-100 hours/year). Mentoring of undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral researchers is also expected. For candidates not fluent in French, a temporary period of teaching in English may be granted for 3 years, which after he/she is expected to be able to teach in French.
Courses covered at the time of recruitment: Classes of all domains of molecular and cellular biology at the Bachelor and Master levels
PhD Degree (with doctoral thesis) in Sciences (Molecular Biology)
