Open PhD position on recommendation techniques for software ecosystems

secoThe prestigious 4-year Belgian Excellence of Science research project SECO-ASSIST (https://secoassist.github.io) has an open position for a PhD student with relevant expertise for the project. SECO-ASSIST (Automated Assistance for Developing Software in Ecosystems of the Future) is a joint FWO-FNRS funded project between 4 Belgian software engineering labs lead by Tom Mens (UMONS), Serge Demeyer (UAntwerpen), Anthony Cleve (UNamur) and Coen De Roover (VUB, Brussels). The labs are well-connected to other research teams worldwide and are centrally located in Europe.

SECO-ASSIST will carry out fundamental research on recommendation techniques for software ecosystems, focusing on the topics of developer team interaction, software library usage, software testing, and database manipulation. A PhD position in our consortium is an ideal stepping stone for an independent research career in academia or industry. The consortium host researchers of various nationalities, hence the working language will be English.

Interested applicants should have a 5-year masters degree related to computer science, with excellent programming skills. Experience in open source software development, data mining and empirical research is desirable. Official applications should be submitted at your earliest convenience to info-seco@soft.vub.ac.be and should include:

  • Earliest available starting date.
  • A Curriculum Vitae containing your full contact details (including full address, e-mail and phone number).
  • A strong motivation letter explaining why you are interested in carrying out PhD research in the context of the SECO-ASSIST project.
  • A digital copy of your masters thesis or masters project, if applicable.
  • Contact details of two academic referees that we may contact.

For further inquiries about the call, please contact Prof. Tom Mens (tom.mens@umons.ac.be), SECO-ASSIST project leader.
