Within the Faculty/Department, you will take part to the teaching, research and service activities. More precisely:
- You will be in charge of the teaching of various bachelor courses (including data management in Life Sciences, bacterial ecology and metabolism) and more specialized master courses in microbiology and bioinformatics for a total of±150h/year. The list of courses may be subjected to slight changes over the years.
- You will also mentor master theses within the master programs in molecular microbiology and the master in molecular and cellular biology.
- You will conduct research in molecular microbiology focused on bacteria and/or their parasites (bacteriophages). The proposed research must be complementary to the research conducted in the URBM (http://www.urbm.be). The innovative project will aim at extending the URBM conceptual and technological expertise to a combination of bioinformatics (big data analysis, phylogeny, structural analysis…) and experimental approaches, including but not limited to bacterial cell biology, biology of bacterial pathogens, applied and/or synthetic microbiology, biology of phages. The study of an original free-living or symbiotic bacterial model will be a strong asset. In this context, you are also expected to mentor PhD theses and to actively raise external funding.
- You will show a strong commitment in the service activities organized by the Department, the Faculty of Science and the University.
