A doctoral student position with an initial 3-year appointment is available under the supervision of Dr. Panos Kostakos in the Center for Ubiquitous Computing (UBICOMP, https://ubicomp.oulu.fi/) in the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. The successful applicant will conduct innovative research on various aspects related to applied cybersecurity, including but not limited to:
The position is funded by research grants from the H2020 Program of the European Commission. The selected applicant will work on research tasks in different projects such as IDUNN (Cognitive Detection System for Cybersecure Operational Technologies) and NESTOR (Enhanced Pre-frontier Intelligence Picture to Safeguard the European Borders). The position is filled as of September 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. A six-month trial period will be effective at the beginning of the initial 3-year contract.
Required qualifications and assessment
The successful applicant must hold a MSc degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Big Data Analytics, or a related discipline. We expect high motivation, interest in conducting high quality research, commitment to achieve predefined goals, and adherence to supervision and guidance.
Fluency in both written and spoken English is required, as well as excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Salary and benefits
The salary will be based on job requirement level 2 of the salary chart of teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). In practice, the salary of a new doctoral student will be roughly 2535 € / month before taxes. The employees will be insured by the university and provided occupational healthcare. Finland is known as a country with a high quality of life and good healthcare system.
